The relationship between self-esteem and exercise self-efficacy with competitive anxiety of adult wrestlers participating in the Takhti international Cup

Abstract

Background & Purpose: Athletes in addition to regular exercise mentally must be in good condition. self-esteem, self-efficacy and appropriate anxiety have a role to reach good performance and elite level. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between Self-esteem and exercise self-efficacy with competitive anxiety among wrestlers participating in Takhti international Cup, held in Kermanshah city.

Methodology: This study is a descriptive – correlation. To select a sample using simple random sampling, according to krejcie and Morgan table, 159 of 277 wrestlers were selected. For data collection, we used three questionnaires, Sport competitive Anxiety Inventory (Martens 1990), coopers’ Self-esteem (1967) and of Curls’ exercise self-efficacy (2007). To evaluate the reliability of research tools 30 questionnaires were distributed as a pilot study of samples, and after data analysis, the Cronbach's alpha for Self-esteem Scale, exercise self- efficacy and competitive anxiety were 0.79, 0.81 and 0.84 respectively. The validity of the questionnaire was confirmed by several professors. For data analysis we used descriptive statistics and to evaluate the assumptions of the study, Pearson correlation and linear regression analysis was used.
