Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of instructional and motivational self-talk on motor performance in basketball.
Methodology: semi-experimental research with pretest and post-test was used. 38 basketball (23 ± 0.5 years old) Beginner and expert chosen randomly and were divided into 2 groups. In the first session¸ pre-test was performed. Then we asked to implement educational and motivational self-talk, and they shoot the basketball from the participants after the test was completed.
Results: The results showed the average performance basketball shooting skills and basic instructional self-talk in terms of skilled players there was no significant difference. While the average performance basketball shooting skills and basic motivational self-talk in terms of skilled players, there was a significant difference. The average performance basketball shooting skills and motivational self-talk in terms of skilled players, no significant difference was found. Other results showed that the average performance in terms of instructional self-talk basketball shooting skills and basic beginner players, there was a significant difference. The average performance basketball shooting skills and motivational self-talk in terms of basic beginner players, there was a significant difference. While the average performance basketball shooting skills and motivational self-talk in terms of a significant difference was not found.
Conclusion: In general, it is recommended that basketball coaches for teach motor skills and increase performance use educational and motivational self-talk.
