The Relationship between Intellectual Capital and Sustainability in Sport Enterprises and presenting a Model

Document Type : Research Paper

Abstract

Introduction: One of the effective factors on sustainability of sport enterprises is intangible capitals such as intellectual capital. In fact, intellectual capital as the intangible assets of enterprises is a key factor for sustainable competitive advantage. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to survey the effects of intellectual capital on the sustainability of sport enterprises and to present a model.
Methodology: The statistical sample consisted of 323 sport entrepreneurs in production and services sectors. Researcher-made questionnaires were used and after confirming content and face validity, reliability was obtained by Cronbach's alpha (.786 & .891). The research method was quantitative based on structural equation modeling using LISREL 8.5 software. Fitness indices were obtained.
Research results: Result showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between intellectual capital and enterprise sustainability. In this regard, 40% of enterprise sustainability was determined by intellectual capital. In fact, a positive relationship can be found between sustainability and the different aspects of intellectual capital, which include human capital, relational capital, and instructional capital.
Discussion and conclusion: Since the human capital via change of structural and relational capital converts knowledge to competitive advantage, consideration to structures, the environment, and the training of sport management and entrepreneurship to sport entrepreneurs is necessary.
