Qualitative Model of Affecting Factors in Sports Tourism Development by The Grounded Theory and Providing Optimal Strategy

Abstract

Introduction & Objective: The purpose was designing a qualitative model of affecting factors in sports tourism development with the Grounded Theory and provide optimal solutions.

Methodology: The research was exploratory fundamental type, which was carried out qualitatively with the Grounded Theory approach. The statistical population included sports tourism experts in the country who were selected purposefully and snowball. The data collection method was semi-structured in-depth interview. Data were coded using Strauss and Corbin's method (open, axial and selective) and NVivo software. 18 people were interviewed. Data saturation occurred in the 15th interview, but the interviews continued until the end.

Findings: 74 themes and 21 effective components in the development of sports tourism in the country were categorized in the 7 main part; Transportation, attractions and events, cultural and social, infrastructure and accommodation, management, laws, policies and climate. Then, these factors were clasified in 5 groups: causal, contextual, intervening, interactions, actions and consequences, and results and consequences , then qualitative model of affecting factors in sports tourism development designed.

Conclusion: The development of advertising and communication programs, cultural and policy reform, management and implementation and infrastructure and facilities are among the most important actions to promote sports tourism position in the country's economy.
