Abstract

Introduction: One of the requirements in order to screen and measure specific characteristics is to identify valid and reliable instruments. The grooved pegboard test, is one of the requirements for screening and measuring individual characteristics. The grooved pegboard test was introduced as one of the most reliable tests by the National Institute of Health (NIH), has not yet been normalized in Iran.

Aims: Therefore, the aim of the current research was to normalize the Grooved Pegboard test in second secondary school students of Shiraz city.

Methods: : Using G* power software, 326 boys between the ages of 16 and 18 years from the four districts of the second secondary schools of Shiraz city were considered and they took part in the present research in a targeted way.. In addition to recording the subjects' demographic information, the 32025 version of the Grooved Pegboard test was performed.

Results: The reliability coefficient was 0.84 using the test-retest method at a time interval of 8 weeks. Moreover, the criterion-dependent validity method was used to check validity, and the results showed validity of 0.79 Percentage rank, T-score, and pinning time record with the dominant and non-dominant hands were used to determine normative data tables.

Conclusion: The results of the present research showed that the Grooved Pegboard Test (GPT) could have a high validity and reliability coefficient in male students of the second secondary school. Also, according to the obtained norm, this test can be used as a practical, simple and valid test for scoring and evaluating of the fine motor skills that should be used in adolescent boys.
