Abstract

Background & Purpose: The main objective of the present research was to investigate the mental coherence of experts regarding the indicators of development in football schools in the country.

Methodology: The current study was conducted as an applied and exploratory research, using a descriptive-exploratory approach for data and information gathering. The Q methodology was employed, which is a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. Q methodological interviews were used to extract the perspectives and thoughts of the participants. In the quantitative aspect, statistical methods such as Q factor analysis and principal component analysis were used for categorizing individuals. Among the football experts in Iran, 10 individuals were selected as samples for the interview section, which focused on grassroots football. Additionally, 24 experienced coaches from the country's football schools, who had previous experience in the top league, were chosen as participants for the Q-sorting phase, using a combination of purposive and non-probabilistic snowball sampling techniques. Q factor analysis was performed using SPSS version 22 software. The research tools included interactive and participatory interviews for the qualitative section and Q diagrams for transferring information derived from the qualitative section with a normal and forced distribution in the quantitative section. Formal and content validity was verified by 10 sports management experts. Reliability testing was conducted using the reliability method by four scorers, showing a correlation coefficient of 0.79, indicating scorer reliability.

Results: The findings revealed five mental patterns: infrastructure-oriented, service-oriented program planners, educational-oriented, and human capital-oriented, which are among the most important indicators of development in football schools in the country.

Conclusion: To develop football schools, it is necessary to prioritize infrastructure and standards, strategic planning, quality services, specialized and educated coaches, and ultimately, the training of human capital.
