Abstract
The purpose of this study was to identify the role and impact of sports coaches in developing the talents of adolescent athletes to acquire the necessary competencies and skills to hold the position of management of sports organizations and sports meritocracy. This theoretical and fundamental research in collecting and analyzing data was a kind of qualitative research based on grounded theory. The research population consisted of coaches with experience and expertise in youth sports. These individuals were selected using a purposeful method. Finally, 13 in-depth and semi-structured interviews were conducted and continued until theoretical saturation. The research findings were 17 main categories and 51 sub-categories. The main categories of achievements were growth and development investments, life skills, five characteristics, and long-term benefits of sports. The main category of the Five personality traits consists of the following sub-categories: competence, confidence, connection, character, and caring. According to the findings of this study, the sports context, relying on the performance of coaches and using the theory of positive youth development, has a tremendous capacity to develop the personality of athletes, to become successful and responsible adults. Competencies are the premise and prerequisite for holding the position of management of sports organizations and the realization of sports meritocracy.
