Abstract

Objective: The current research aims to identify ways to prevent the emergence of silent sports talents in Iran. Methodology: The present research is applied in terms of objective, qualitative approach, and thematic analysis strategy. The statistical population of the research includes active professors of sports sciences in the field of talent scouting, sports coaches, and talent scouts of sports federations. Eighteen people were used as a research sample through the purposeful sampling method until reaching theoretical saturation. The data collection tool included field studies and in-depth semi-structured interviews. The six-step method of Brown and Clark (2006) was used to analyze the data, and the trinity method was used to confirm the reliability of the research. Findings: In the process of coding the conducted interviews, a total of 97 open codes or factors were identified and categorized into 17 concepts and finally 7 main categories. The results of the research showed that seven main categories play a role in preventing the emergence of silent sports talents in Iran. These categories include technical factors, managerial factors, psychological factors, environmental factors, economic factors, governmental factors, and cultural factors. Conclusion: Paying attention to the factors affecting the performance of athletes at different ages and not eliminating them in the early stages can help reduce the challenge. Also, specialization in the early stages can bring opposite results. Therefore, it is suggested to pay attention to the findings of the current research in the design of models and talent search programs. Specialization in the early stages can bring opposite results, and talent search in order to obtain short-term results may lead to the expansion of the phenomenon of institutional talents in sports.
