Abstract

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the trust in managers and organizational citizenship behavior in the general administration of sports and youth of the Guilan province, with the mediation of organizational identity and commitment.
Methodology: The present study is of the descriptive-correlation type. For data collection, a trust in managers questionnaire (Chathoth et al., 2010), organizational identity questionnaire (Cheney, 1953), an organizational commitment questionnaire (Allen & Meyer, 1997), and an organizational citizenship behavior questionnaire (Tavakolli et al., 2009) were used. The population consisted of all the staff of the General Administration of Sports and Youth of Guilan province (130 people), from whom 101 questionnaires were collected. The data were analyzed using SPSS 22 and Smart PLS 3 modeling software.
Results: Trust in managers did not have a direct effect in organizational citizenship behavior, however, the direct effectiveness of putting trust in managers on organizational identity, organizational identity on organizational commitment, and organizational commitment on organizational citizenship behavior were at optimal levels. Finally trust in managers was found to be indirectly effective in organizational citizenship behavior through the mediation of organizational identity and commitment.
Conclusion: Managers can increase organizational trust through making their employees trust them, thereby boosting organizational identity, organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior.
